I’m the one in the orange wetsuit at my first official Ripcurl surf weekend in 2018. It’s a group taster surfing lesson on Fistral Beach in Newquay—also known as the Surf Capital of the UK.
This was my first official lesson, but I’ve been bodyboarding and surfing (badly!) since I was a teenager. It’s just what you do when you grow up in Devon 😊 The winters are cold, so you usually end up wearing gloves, booties, and a hood, but summers can be pretty pleasant. Surfing and freshwater swimming are definitely the highest form of self-care 🌊🤍✨
The waves in North Devon are great for longboarding, so when I got a chance, I bought this beautiful single-fin longboard fishtail hybrid—perfect for walking the board! Unfortunately, I had to sell her over lockdown, which is my biggest regret 🥹 I’m definitely on the lookout for a new longboard—a perfect beginner surfboard—but I haven’t found the right one yet!
