No matter the timing: Cynthia on learning to surf at 45

Surfer profiles2 weeks ago32 Views

👋 Hey I’m Cynthia

Today, as I sat in the surf lineup, I looked back at the beach and couldn’t help but reflect. It’s the same beach where I stood at 18 years old, seeing the ocean for the very first time.

🏊‍♀️ From a non-swimmer to becoming a lifeguard

Back then, I was standing there as a newly certified lifeguard. Funny enough, just two years earlier, I’d taught myself to swim (at 15 years old!) in my neighbor’s pool because I signed up for a lifeguard course without knowing how to swim. Talk about diving in headfirst! 😂

🏄‍♀️ Falling in love and learning to surf at 45

Now at 45 years old, I’m six months into teaching myself how to surf, and it has become an obsession. Along the way, I have made incredible friends and learned so much about myself.

The biggest win for me is inspiring my 24-year-old daughter to join me in starting her own surf journey. 🥹 Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect, but whatever sets your soul on fire is worth chasing—no matter the timing. You can find me at @cynthia.sandiego
