Pro surfers go brand-collab nutso crazy at $6,500 and $250,000 a piece
Kelly Slater and Breitling have released a new watch: the Superocean B31, retailing at circa $6,500 and inspired by Hawaiian surf culture, according to the press release. Kelly is part of Breitling’s surf squad alongside Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons, but their watches are cheaper, under $5,000.
Not to be outdone, Rob Machado teamed up with the Rogue Van Company to offer a $250,000 Rogue Wave ultimate surf van—the most extravagant van on the market (not my words). It features on-the-go power, a fridge, sink, and stove. So at least you can live in it. But hurry—only 10 will ever be produced.
The Wave is back on, supposedly. We don’t know who to believe anymore.
The famous wave pool in Bristol, UK, The Wave, which closed down abruptly last Thursday, reopened its doors earlier this week under new ownership. According to the statement on the website: “We will be reopening our doors at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 1st July, and all wave sessions will run as scheduled.” Alas—bookings are currently on pause. So who knows what on earth is going on at The Wave.

Man headbutted by a shark
Only in Florida. One Darren Kaye was surfing at New Smyrna Beach when a spinner shark jumped out of the water and kissed him on the forehead. Thankfully, its mouth was closed. The shark’s, that is—we don’t know about Darren’s mouth at the time of the incident. He described it as being hit by a car. Darren did, not the shark.
Make a Wave gonna surf 30 days non-stop, and you can too.
Now in its fifth year, Make a Wave, SurfAid’s flagship fundraiser in collaboration with Rip Curl, is challenging surfers around the globe to surf 30 days in September. The funds raised will help bring clean water, healthcare, and food security to families in remote surf communities.
