From fear to stoke: Karla is getting back into surfing

Surfer profiles2 weeks ago19 Views

👋 Hey, I’m Karla

My first time surfing was at Cowell’s Beach in Santa Cruz, and I guess I got lucky — caught my first wave with a bit of beginner’s magic. I was 19, in good shape, but honestly, I was terrified of the ocean. I let fear take the wheel, and it kept me from really embracing it.

🏄‍♀️ Surf stoke rekindled

Fast forward 15 years, and I found myself at Neah Bay on the coast of Washington, still young and strong, but living 100 miles from the nearest surf. I didn’t get to ride the waves often, but that trip left a mark.

Back in California, and this summer (2024) I’ve rekindled that surf stoke. I’ve been hitting up any friend with a board and time to spare. Capitola, Jack’s, 26th Avenue, and Linda Mar in Pacifica have been my go-to spots. A friend even gifted me his old board—YEEEW!! It’s been a wild ride, and I’m loving every second of it. But, I’m still a bit of a newbie, and the ocean still has that edge of fear for me.

🤙Looking for surf buddies

I’m always looking for surf buddies, though—someone to keep me company out there, because, honestly, I don’t feel too comfortable going solo just yet. One thing’s for sure: I will never not surf again. The ocean and I are still figuring each other out, but there’s no turning back now. Let’s connect @karlalarson6!
